Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 21st November 2025

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

Today, we would like to celebrate the amazing way that our Reception children have settled and are flourishing in school. It is hard to believe that they have only been in school for one and a bit terms! We have tried to capture some of the wow moments in their learning this week for you to enjoy and celebrate with us. Last year our Reception students did brilliantly with attainment surpassing both the local and national average outcomes. Seeing what a good start our Reception children had made this year, we are certain that they will again excel. Well done to our fabulous Reception children!

Reception Learning Walk

If your child is attending Nursery and will be of an age to start Reception this September, we are currently running sessions where you can come along, meet the Reception Team and learn more about our Reception offer and school life. The next Open Day is on November 25th, please contact us if you wish to book a time or wish to learn of the further days that you can arrange to visit. All applications for Reception places need to be made via KCC Admissions Portal by Thursday, January 15, 2026. Please note that if your child attends our Nursery, they will still need to apply via Kent Admissions.

It was great to have so many of you attend our Parent Consultation Meetings this week. Thank you to all who took the time to complete one of our Parent Voice Surveys. Your feedback is invaluable to us as a school as it helps us to understand what is working well and what we can develop and improve.

We recognise that we may have people who are new to the school and in response to some of the feedback, we would like to make you aware of the Year Group Learning Pages that are available you on our website. These pages provide information on what the children are learning in each year group and when. You can access them through the pink learning tab but for ease, you can also access them through the links below:

Where we have aligned our assessments with the Aletheia Academy Trust this year, assessments have been scheduled differently. For this reason, we will be sending out progress and attainment reports a little later. They will be with you before the end of term.

Best wishes,

 Attendance

It is unfortunately that time of year when there are lots of illnesses going around. We know that sometimes our pupils cannot come to school because they are really unwell - and that's the right thing to do for them and other students. Medical advice is clear however that children with mild illness will often be well enough to attend - for example if they have a cough, or cold, without a temperature. The NHS guidance Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk) is designed to support parents in their decision making about mild illness.

We cannot stress to you all how important regular attendance is and the long and short-term impact that it can have on progress and attainment. To avoid this kind of long-lasting damage, ideally students need to attend at least 96 % in a year. Please see the chart below to understand how many days of learning can be lost.
