Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 23rd May 2025

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

This week we came together to showcase and celebrate our children’s artistic creations with an art exhibition. Pupils in all year groups, including nursery, had their work on display in the Key Stage 2 Hall. The quality of the work and learning was very impressive. It was clear looking at the work displayed that the children have learnt a great deal about a number of techniques, using a variety of materials and also appreciating the works of famous artists. Well done to all of our students, you continue to amaze us with your awesomeness!

Thank you to those families who came along and took an interest in our pupils’ work!

We are noticing an increasing number of safeguarding concerns stemming from students who are making ill-considered choices on their mobile phones and computers; either placing themselves at risk when using apps that have been created for adults and older children or through inappropriate behaviours when messaging their peers.

With mobile phone and computer technology evolving so quickly, we know that some adults can struggle with making safe choices online and if adults find keeping safe challenging, then it is no surprise that some of our pupils get into trouble. With that in mind, if your child has access to a mobile phone or computer, please make sure that you regularly are monitoring the apps that they have access to, the chat groups that they are participating in  and the behaviours that they demonstrate towards one another when messaging.

Insisting that all device use happens in a communal space where you are present enables closer monitoring and  enables you to intervene should your child need help and guidance. We have a range of safeguarding guides which can be accessed by clicking HERE. It is important to know that abusive behaviours online are notifiable to the police and that the age of legal responsibility is 10 years old.

We would love to know your views regarding pupils having access to mobile phones and computers and subsequently would like to invite you to complete a survey by clicking HERE.

Attendance

The foundations of learning are laid in the Primary years of schooling and so Whitehill Primary School is committed to making sure that our children do not miss out on the education and care that we offer. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be happy, successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them now and in the future.

Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of rewards and incentives to promote good attendance and punctuality. Awards are group focused rather than given to individuals as we recognise that our students cannot help being absent for medical reasons.

This week, the class with the best attendance is Turquoise Class. Well done Turquoise Class! Keep up the good work!
